The role

As the Senior Manager, you will be responsible for leading a high-performing team that specialises in the prudential supervision of private health insurance entities. You will provide clear direction to ensure the effective design and delivery of supervisory strategies and support professional development of the team.

The team

The Life and Private Health Insurance and Superannuation Division is responsible for the prudential supervision of life insurers, private health insurers and the trustees of superannuation funds in Australia. The division comprises three industry-focused supervision branches and a specialist branch, together operating across the country.

Supervisory teams are supported by our specialist teams and partners across APRA, such as insurance risk, investment risk, actuarial, governance and culture, and technology resilience.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop the team to conduct high quality analysis and risk assessment of their entities in an evolving environment;
  • Design and execute effective supervisory strategies to achieve desired supervisory outcomes;
  • Effectively represent APRA and proactively develops relationships with external stakeholders;
  • Monitor the financial system to identify critical developments that could impact the risk profile of the entities or the execution of supervision strategies;
  • Contribute to the development and execution of industry and divisional strategies;
  • Proactively identify opportunities to deliver APRA’s priorities and lead the team through change initiatives; and
  • Foster an inclusive environment that creates a sense of belonging and trust and allows people to actively contribute and reach their full potential.

     

About you

  • Experience in the life or private health insurance sector in a leadership capacity, with sound understanding of insurance business models, financial and non-financial risk management;
  • Demonstrated ability to identify strategic issues and develop and implement appropriate solutions;
  • Demonstrated people leadership skills, with an ability to set direction, empower and create an inclusive environment;
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills;
  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to advise and report to internal and external stakeholders and Boards; and
  • Relationship building, negotiation and influencing capability at senior level.

To work with us, you need to be an Australian citizen with eligibility to obtain and maintain Australian Government Security clearance.
