The team
APRA’s in-house legal team provides legal advice across various aspects of financial services, corporate and administrative law and prudential regulation, involving banks, credit unions, building societies, general insurance and reinsurance companies, life insurance, private health insurance, friendly societies, and most of the superannuation industry.
Advisory Legal team is a busy and dynamic team that provides advice and assistance across the organisation on a wide range of issues related to all industries regulated by APRA as well as the running of APRA more generally.
The role
As a Principal Solicitor – Advisory Legal, your work will focus on providing legal advice on your industry of specialisation (one or more of banking, superannuation or insurance).
Key Accountabilities:
- Providing high quality, timely and practical legal advice to stakeholders within APRA;
- Advising APRA as a body corporate in commercial contracts and relevant aspects of the Commonwealth Finance Law;
- Supporting managers and peers with the delivery of timely, expert and outcomes oriented advice;
- Reviewing documents to ensure compliance with relevant legal requirements;
- Supporting APRA in relation to law reform proposals; and
- Jointly formulating strategy with stakeholders in industry aligned supervision teams across APRA on a range of complex issues that are often novel and untested.
As a more senior member of the team, you will also be responsible for sharing your knowledge, mentoring more junior colleagues and contributing to the wider Legal team’s workstreams and knowledge management initiatives.
About you
You will have relevant tertiary qualifications including a law degree, be admitted to practice in Australia and have significant post-admission experience.
You will have significant experience in advising in one or more of superannuation, insurance and banking. Ideally this expertise will have been obtained either working in house or in private legal practice. Corporate or commercial legal experience will also be highly regarded.
To work with us, you need to be an Australian citizen with eligibility to obtain and maintain Australian Government Security clearance.
