The role

 

The Manager, Software Engineering leads a team of 10 software engineers responsible for the design, development, integration and continuous improvement of digital solutions across web applications, enterprise systems and workplace platforms.

This role is accountable for the endtoend software engineering lifecycle, including fullstack development, system integration, automation and the reliable operation of applications that support critical business processes, ensuring engineering practices are scalable, secure and aligned with organisational architecture and standards.

As a people leader, you will build and manage a highperforming engineering team, providing technical direction, coaching and clear delivery priorities. The role also plays a key part in enabling AIpowered capabilities, workflow automation and digital solutions, ensuring these technologies are integrated responsibly into enterprise applications to improve efficiency, user experience and business outcomes.

 

The team

 

APRA’s Technology team delivers, maintains, and enhances essential information technology services that support the organisation's productivity, strategic objectives, and business unit priorities.

Technology partners with stakeholders to design, implement and maintain IT solutions that meet the needs of the organisation and ensuring these are secure and aligned with APRA’s technology architecture.

 

Key responsibilities

  • Lead, coach and develop a team of 10 software engineers, fostering strong engineering discipline, collaboration and continuous improvement.

  • Oversee fullstack software development across web applications, enterprise systems and workplace tools, from design through to deployment and support.

  • Ensure the delivery of secure, scalable and maintainable applications, aligned with enterprise architecture, development standards and security requirements.

  • Drive the continuous improvement of digital solutions, reducing technical debt and improving performance, reliability and user experience.

  • Lead and coordinate system integration activities, including APIs and workflow automation across platforms and enterprise systems.

  • Enable the responsible adoption of AI and automation, embedding AIenabled features into applications where they deliver clear business value.

  • Establish and maintain effective software engineering practices, including CI/CD, code quality, testing, DevSecOps and release management.

  • Manage team capacity, delivery commitments and dependencies to ensure predictable and highquality outcomes.

     

 

To work with us, you must be an Australian citizen with eligibility to gain a defence clearance through the Australian Government Security Vetting Agency.

 

About you

  • Proven experience leading and managing software engineering teams in enterprise environments.

  • Strong background in fullstack software development, including modern web frameworks, integration, backend services and platforms.

  • Demonstrated experience delivering and supporting enterprise applications, integrations and workflow automation.

  • Solid understanding of cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS or GCP) and modern delivery practices (CI/CD, DevSecOps, Agile).

  • Experience enabling AIpowered features within applications, including integration of LLMs or automation services.

  • Ability to balance engineering delivery, people leadership and stakeholder engagement.

  • Strong problemsolving skills and ability to guide teams through complex technical challenges.

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs into technical outcomes.
