  1. The role 

  1. The Strategic Advisor, reporting to the Head of Strategy, will play a key role in shaping APRA’s organisational and divisional priorities. You will provide strategic thought leadership to inform decision-making, and support specific strategic initiatives and projects that align with our goals and objectives. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders, drawing out differing perspectives in strategy development and ensuring alignment in delivery.

The strategy team plays a pivotal role in supporting strategy development across APRA and sits within the Strategy and Governance Branch of the Chief of Staff and Enterprise Services Division (ChES). ChES plays a vital role in the effective functioning of the organisation and comprises a range of critical functions, including strategy and governance, corporate affairs, regulatory affairs, finance, project delivery, facilities, and people and culture. These functions are essential to the smooth operation of the organisation and enable APRA to focus on achieving its strategic objectives and fulfill its purpose.

  1. Key responsibilities 

  • Driving the development of APRA’s corporate plan priorities; 

  • Providing thought leadership and strategic insights; 

  • Facilitating workshops and cross-functional discussions to engage stakeholders, foster collaboration and innovation; 

  • Scanning the environment for emerging trends and risks; 

  • Supporting the launch and implementation of strategic initiatives as required, ensuring smooth execution and stakeholder engagement; 

  • Providing quarterly progress monitoring of delivery to senior committees; 

  • Building relationships with a wide number of APRA colleagues to ensure collaboration and alignment with APRA’s strategic objectives.

  • Strategic mindset; 

  • Significant experience in the financial services industry or broader regulation; 

  • Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills; 

  • Ability to provide sound advice informed by a variety of stakeholder views; 

  • Ability to exercise good judgment to prioritise and deliver on multiple responsibilities; 

  • Openness to learning and adapting in a dynamic environment; 

  • Collaborative and inclusive working style; and 

  • Excellent attention to detail.
