The role

APRA has a vacancy for an experienced communications professional to join the busy Corporate Affairs team supporting APRA’s important work in the Australian financial system. This newly created role will be actively involved in activities across internal, external and digital communications.

The team

APRA’s Corporate Affairs function sits within the Chief of Staff and Enterprise Services Division. Corporate Affairs provides communications expertise to inform and educate stakeholders about APRA’s work and decisions across policy, supervision, enforcement and resolution. Corporate Affairs provides communications advice and support for internal and external audiences and manages a range of digital channels, as well as APRA’s brand.
Our purpose is to steer APRA’s reputation as modern, future-focused independent regulator, and an employer-of-choice. We ensure all APRA’s public and internal communications are strategic, engaging and sustainable in the way they are delivered. 

Key responsibilities

  • Drive external communications initiatives and media relations
  • Drive internal communications initiatives including leader preparation
  • Champion issues preparedness and support in issues management activity
  • Champion editorial quality and audience understanding in all APRA communications
  • Ensure consistent quality and accuracy across a range of communications materials and publications such as prudential publications, communications to industry, internal communications and key corporate publications
  • Develop communications plans; draft and edit media releases, speeches, key messaging documentation and other corporate communications materials as required.

About you

This newly created role would suit a candidate with at least five years of experience in communications in the financial services industry or a journalist with experience reporting on finance or business matters. The successful candidate must have strong writing skills, issues management experience and be able to assist with the development of materials both for internal and external communication.

The candidate must be capable of providing advice and support at an executive level. Being able to influence and involve stakeholders to an appropriate level is key to success.
